Data Virtualization

PE client was interested in acquiring a leading provider of data virtualization (DV) software as a tuck-in to a company in their existing portfolio.  

As part of the technology due diligence (TDD), assessments were conducted of applications/use cases, including replacing ETL; SWOT on the key products; existing architecture, including ability to integrate into the existing portfolio company; development team’s talent and processes; intellectual property risks.

The TDD assessment identified technology risk factors that ultimately led the PE client to withdraw their bid.

Network and Infrastructure Security

PE client was considering a take-private of a company that was a leading provider in the DDI (DNS, DHCP & IPAM) space. The commercial due diligence (CDD) assessed the customer segmentation of the DDI market, competitive positioning across each market segment, opportunities for growth through new customer adoption and refresh dynamics across the company’s customer base.

The CDD analysis showed that the target was well positioned to maintain its market leadership in the DDI space since their product offering was well-aligned with customer needs and likely to yield upsell opportunities going forward. In addition, a significant growth opportunity was identified in an emerging market segment.

Client was a leading provider of mid-market ERP solutions to several vertical, mid-market segments. As part of this growth strategy engagement, we assessed growth options along adjacent geographic, vertical and customer segment growth vectors. 

As part of the analysis, we identified specific markets, determined the addressable market size, and assessed potential fit with the client’s existing market presence and organizational capabilities. As part of the final growth strategy, we recommended specific target segments, their relative priority and specific market entry considerations.

VALUE CREATION

Network Solution Provider

The value creation engagement was a multi-month assignment with a leading network solution provider that traditionally focused on the copper-based access/aggregation and media conversion markets. Proliferation of fiber and mobile infrastructure made this a contracting market and limited the growth potential of the company. The project assignment was to create a strategy to reposition the company for growth and create a more significant position in the carrier ecosystem.

The project resulted in the creation of a breakout strategy, based upon establishing a foundational position in the emerging NFV infrastructure market, resulting in one of the industry’s first SDN orchestration offerings.
